The collar is a separate piece of garment attached to the neck line of a shirt, blouse, dress or jacket. It can be made in a matching fabric or contrasting and they can be trimmed in lace or embroidery. The collar contributes significantly to the total look of the garment.

The shape can be; flat, rolled, standing or draped. Collars could be knitted as well or made in for example organza with a lettuce finish. All collars must be made and attached professionally to give a great look. Do remember the first thing you look upon is the face and then the neck/collar.

There are a lot of different collars and shapes. The traditional shirt collar, have during time, changes to a collar with a stand.

The stand gives the collar an up-standing look – the collar comes from menswear.

Collars do also have a lot of great names, some more fun than other. For example: Bertha collar and Dog ear collar. You might also know: Chinese/Mandarin collar, Convertible collar, Sailor collar, Peter Pan collar.

Beside we got the collar used for classic jacket: the lapel or the shawl collar. These can be made in a lot of different shapes and sometimes new names are added to the shape of these. For example: Fish mouth or Lover leaf.
